Clarke looks to make his mark in Bahamas

G.C. Foster College's rising star, Everton Clarke, is happy with his inclusion in Jamaica's team for this year's International Association of Athletics Federations World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, and he intends to add to Jamaica' glory at the event on April 22 and 23.

"The Jamaican team have always performed good at these games and there is no exception when I get there," he told STAR Sports.

Clarke will be among Jamaica's 4x100m relay, along with former 100m record holder Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Kemar Bailey-Cole, Julian Forte, and Jevaughn Minzie.

"I am a person like this: when I go to compete, I always go for the win. And so, this World Relays will be no different," Clarke added.

Clarke, who won the 100m title at the most recent Intercol Championships, said that he is looking forward to giving a good account of himself.

"It is a big personal achievement because you know that Jamaica is the sprint capital with so many great sprinters, and so being on this team is a great achievement for me," said Clarke.

The Jamaican team finished second behind the United States in sprint relay at the last World Relays in 2015. However, Clarke said that he is confident that they can do much better this time around.

The Herbert Morrison Technical High School graduate set his personal best of 10.08 seconds in semi-final action at the National Senior Championships last year at the National Stadium.

The 23-year-old, who ran 10.12 to win the 100m final at the Inter-Collegiate Championships, is happy with his season so far.

"My season has been excellent so far because I have been having a great indoor season, and I hope to continue making strides as the season progresses," he said.
