Netball Jamaica must decide, says Allison-McCracken

Jermaine Allison-McCracken, coach of the Jamaica Sunshine Girls, said it is now up Jamaica Netball to decide her future with the national team after the national players' 1-1 draw in a series against lowly ranked Barbados.

Allison-McCracken, who has come in for much criticism over the past few weeks after she sent home three senior players, made her comments after the Sunshine Girls' shocking 41-43 defeat by Barbados in Game 3 of their three-Test series at the National Arena on Monday.

"I think I did the best that I could, and I think that everybody at the board level at Netball Jamaica knows that circumstances of this particular series was not ideal," she said.

Allison-McCracken went into the series with a lot to prove. It didn't help matters that she sent home Khadijah Williams, Shanice Beckford and Nicole Dixon for what she deemed as "inappropriate behaviour".

The inexperienced Sunshine Girls unit played poorly throughout the series. They drew the opening game 44-44 and won the second game 40-34.

The British-born Allison-McCracken, who signed a one-year contract in March, with a six-month probation period, said she doesn't know if her job is under threat.

She added that the series came at bad time because most of the senior players are away overseas and so younger players were under a lot of pressure to perform.

"It (series) was not right. If I had been asked to do it now, I would have said possibly not because most of the players were under pressure, as they were doing exams," Allison-McCracken said.

"Three of our players took exams today (Monday) and then came back to played this game, and so it was not the best time," she said.
