Leaders Wolmer's hunt Innswood scalp
Wolmer's Boys will look to maintain their place atop Group A in the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup when they take on bottom-placed Innswood High at home this afternoon. Wolmer's technical director, Rudolph Speid, criticised his team's shooting during their last game, which was a 0-0 stalemate away to Tivoli.
That draw allowed Tivoli to pull level with the Wolmerians on 10 points in the group, but the Heroes Circle-based school stay top on goal difference. Wolmer's will look to Rivaldo English to add to his three goals against Innswood, who have lost all four games so far this season. Meanwhile, Tivoli will look for three points of their own against third-place Haile Selassie, who are third on six points and looking to keep pace with the leaders.
In Group B, defending champions Jamaica College (JC) will travel to Bull Bay to face Donald Quarrie High. Miguel Coley's JC team find themselves with eight points, same as St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), but second on goal difference. STATHS cannot afford to lose today if they want to hold on to their top spot. They face Mona High, who have seven points. This means that Mona could move to first place with a win, provided JC also drop points today.
STRONG FAVOURITES
Kingston College (KC) are one of this season's strong favourites, especially after registering two 12-0 wins, which contributes to their 33 goals for and two against in four games. The North Street team will be in a first versus second battle with Shavar Thomas's Excelsior High, who have 10 points. Like Ludlow Bernard's KC, Excelsior are also unbeaten in four games but lost their 100 per cent run when they drew 1-1 with Greater Portmore last week.
Group G sees dark horses Calabar High, more known for their prowess on the track, looking to make a name for themselves this season. Lijj Simms' boys top the table with a maximum 12 points from their four games, and they will look to stretch their lead against Eltham High, who are trying to pull level with a win this afternoon at Red Hills Road.
Veteran coach Jerome Waite will also try to catch Calabar when his Charlie Smith team meets Jonathan Grant at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Charlie Smith are second on nine points, same as Eltham, but have a better goal difference.
All matches kick off at 3:30 p.m., except KC versus Excelsior, which begins at 3:45 p.m. at the Stadium East Field.
