Parris eager for RSPL debut with Cavalier

ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup standout Kaheem Parris of Dinthill Technical High School and Campderdown High's Jamoi Topey will make their debuts for Cavalier SC against defending champions Arnett Gardens in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) this afternoon.

Parris, who scored 30 goals in rural schoolboy football this season, saw his season come to an end after Dinthill's 5-2 loss to Clarendon College in the daCosta Cup semi-final on Tuesday. He has been the subject of debate regarding whether he should be playing for his school or his club. But Cavalier head coach Rudolph Speid said that the club had his best interests at heart.

"He'll be on the bench and he'll get game time," Speid told Star Sports. "As soon as his season is finished, he was calling and saying 'Coach, mi ready now. Mi ready to play!' He always wanted to play for the club, but we never wanted to take the chance and make him play. We wanted him to go to school. "

Speid said that Parris' qualities will allow him to make Cavalier more dangerous in the RSPL this season.

"Cavalier's policy is very clear: young, skillful and fast," he said. "Once you fit those criteria, you will get a chance to play in our system. He will join with fellow national invitees Alex Marshall, Nicholas Hamilton and Chevone Marsh. That set of players who form our triad. He's the next part of the puzzle to join them to terrorise defences in the Premier League. Nobody can stop any of them one on one. They're really that skillful and good."

Parris was a regular in the Cavalier team during last season's Kingston and St Andrew Football Association Super League, and scored the winner against Priory FC in the National Premier League play-off to see his side qualify for the RSPL.

Arnett top the 12-team RSPL table after and Monday night's 2-1 win over Harbour View and will be looking to their top scorer Lennox Russell to add to his five goals so far this season, while Fabian Reid will also look to build on his tally of three.

The Jerome Waite-coached side is the only unbeaten team in the league, having won six of their 10 games so far.

Cavalier, with 15 points from their 10 games are unbeaten in their last five games, following Sunday's 1-0 win over FC Reno at Frome.

This afternoon's game takes place at the Stadium East field at 5 p.m.
