Hankinson: MBU has a hill to climb

Montego Bay United technical director Tim Hankinson said that he is frustrated at what he describes as a slow momentum build by his team, as it looks to turn around its form and earn a play-off spot at the end of the Red Stripe Premier League's preliminary stage.

The American, who said that he is also frustrated by having recent fixtures postponed, said that this momentum must now build against Boys' Town FC at the Barbican field on Sunday.

"I've been here two weeks, and have had two games since. Both have been draws. That's not building points fast enough to put us in contention, so its kind of frustrating. We want to build momentum to try to build points and make the first step towards building for the play-offs," said Hankinson.

"We understand that this is not just going to happen overnight, or the next game. This is about the accumulation of points over the next 11 games. Obviously, Sunday is a very important game for us because it's the next one in line and our first win is important to get us kick-started," said Hankinson.

DISAPPOINTED

Hankinson, who believes playing at home gives any team an advantage, is disappointed in not being able to pick up maximum points in Thursday's game at home against Waterhouse FC, where they shared points in a 2-2 draw.

"We are at the bottom of the mountain looking up at the teams at the top, and that is a big climb. Even though we have a game in hand, sitting in 10th is a place the club have probably never been and never want to be, so we are calling on the pride of the players to step up and take one step on Sunday," said Hankinson.

"From there, we can carry that momentum half a dozen games down the road, and, hopefully, into the play-offs spot. That is what I would want to do right now in peaking at the right time," he said.
