Keith Wellington, principal of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), believes the 34 year-old STETHS Invitational Track and Field Meet, which is set to run off at 9 a.m. today at the STETHS Sports Complex, will be the best yet. He said that this is because of new sponsors coming on board, and also recent improvements to the complex.

"It has always been a constant in term of our programming schedule, and how we prepare our athletes. We have done exceptionally well with the meet over the past few years through sponsorship, especially with GraceKennedy for nine years," said Wellington, who is also the Vice-president of ISSA.

"We have a new sponsor this year in Wisynco, and with the additional feature of being able to have a long day with the lights recently installed, I think this is something that will be used not just for preparation, but also as a fund raising activity that will play a big part in us achieving our goals," he added.

RECENTYEARS

Meet director, Renaldo Walcott, said that he is happy with the development of the meet in recent years. He added that he is looking forward to the challenge today, where for the first time, they will face 13 events.

"We're having a packed day starting with the 400m hurdles, 1500m, 400m, 4x800m, 200m, 100m and we'll be closing with the 4x400m all for both boys and girls. We are also doing all the field events excluding pole vault so both on the track and in the field it should be a jammed packed day," he added.

Walcott who is also the coach of STETHS Track and Field team said they want to make a statement on today in their ground, in front of their home crowd.

"Most definitely, we have been doing well already and would want to continue that trend. We are going to try and win all the events that are there, although it won't be easy, given the quality around from other schools," said Walcott.
