Champs 2018: Gold on my mind - Jauavney James targets 400 hurdles, 800 titles

Jauvauney James of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) said that he is confident in taking the gold medal in the Class One boys 400-metre hurdles at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships later this week.

"I am positive I can take it because the times Rovaine Williams and (Malik) James-King ran is not impossible," James said.

Williams ran 50.32s and Malik James-King 50.56s in the final of the Under-20 boys 400-metre hurdles at the Digicel Grand Prix finals two weeks ago.

"I probably can run it or even faster, but I'll be aiming for a faster time than those," said James, whose personal best of 50.74s was set last year at the Pan American Games.

James said that he is also confident of winning the Class One 800 metres. The STETHS star athlete lost the event at Western Championships last month after he was beaten by Tyreese Reid of Spot Valley High School.

However, with this being his last year at Champs, James said that he wants to close out his high school career with gold in the 400m hurdles, 800m, as well as the 4x400m relay.
