Montego Bay United (MBU) footballer Jourdain Fletcher was not involved in the car crash where five persons died in Hopewell, Hanover, on Sunday night. However, the 20-year-old was involved in another single-vehicle crash in Negril, Westmoreland, on the same night.

The national striker was travelling with four passengers, one of whom was also hospitalised, when his vehicle crashed. He was admitted to the Savanna-La-Mar Public General Hospital then transferred to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay in stable condition. Despite a wrist injury and minor concussions, Fletcher said that he was fine. However he is scheduled to undergo a CT scan.

Fletcher was the subject of transfer rumours linking him to Harbour View FC last year, however, he recently returned to the island after spending time playing and studying in the United States.

ENCOURAGING

MBU chief operating officer Sandra Christie said that the last time she spoke to Fletcher, he wanted to return to Jamaica to play football, however MBU advised him to stay at Eastern Florida State College and focus on his academics.

"He has been in touch with the club," she said. "Before he came down, he and I spoke, and we were encouraging him to continue with his studies. However, we have not yet had a sit-down with him since he has been back."

Christie said that Fletcher's crash would be discussed further in MBU's board meeting today.

While MBU will be discussing the future of Fletcher later today, their young striker is reportedly still eyeing a move to Harbour View. With this move, he would join former teammate Peter-lee Vassell, who he played alongside in their ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup win at Cornwall College in 2016.

Fletcher made his debut for the senior men's national team in a 1-0 loss to the United States in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on February 3, 2017.
