President of the Westmoreland Football Association, Everton Tomlinson, is hoping the Dujon Construction Ltd Westmoreland FA Major League Competition ends on a high. The competition's final takes place today and Tomlinson told STAR Sports that he is pleased with this year's running, as he believes clubs made strides to improve their structure amidst financial challenges faced.

"I've seen efforts by the management of a few of the clubs. They are trying to put things in place but they still have a long way to go," said Tomlinson.

STRUCTUREANDLEADERSHIP

"Football will continue to struggle in western Jamaica until communities and clubs have facilities, structure and leadership to carry the football. It is totally different from the 80s where we just had a team and we have to operate as a club. I think one of the main reasons is that there is no incentive or sponsorship. The volunteers and support from communities are difficult to find.

It's like you have to be able to take from your own pocket, and these people are here for the love. They don't have much," he added. "Its really demanding, so in terms of structuring a club, it's really a challenge. We have to improve on our workshops in terms of management, coaching and the overall running of a club."

The final which is set to kickoff at 3:00 p.m., will see preseason favourites Delevland FC going up against Golden Touch FC.

Golden Touch edged Georges Plain FC 1-0 in the semi-final while Delevland, who won the league format by one point ,got the better of Little London FC on penalties 6-5 in their semi-final at the Llandilo Play Field last week.
