File Leonardo Rankine (left), then of Sandals South Coast, goes into a header with UWI FC's Patrick Brown in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) encounter at the UWI Mona Bowl on Sunday, January 14. Rankine will represent Cavalier SC in the upcoming RSPL season.

National senior team invitee Leonardo Rankine said he is hoping that his move to Red Stripe Premier League outfit Cavalier from Sandals South Coast will enhance his chances of securing a recall to the national set-up.

Rankine, who is a central midfielder, said Cavalier is on the rise and therefore he is hoping to continue his development at the club.

"To be honest, I wanted to go into a better team and play some good football and to push my career a bit further. I also want to continue my development as a player and Cavalier was that team for me," said Rankine.

"This Cavalier team is a very good team because it is a youthful one and they play a better ball game than most of the teams in the Premier League. I am looking forward to working with everyone at the club this season," he said.

The 21-year-old Rankine received his lone call-up to the national team for the friendly international match against rivals Trinidad and Tobago last year in the twin island republic.

He added that his aim is to prove to everyone that he has all the qualities to retain a permanent spot on the Reggae Boyz team.

"My aim is to get another call-up to the national team and I just have do what is required of me in training and in matches, and to make sure that I stay on top of my game at all times," Rankine said.

"I know that I have quality to become one of the best players in the league, so I am just going to work very hard to ensure that I stay on top of my game," he said.

"I am a central midfielder, so I just have to stay in the middle of the park and distribute the ball and help my team come out victorious in every game."
