Cornwall College's (CC) striker Aiden Jokomba said he would like to lead his team to the Olivier Shield title that has not been won by a rural team since 2006. In order to do so, he is looking to score over 20 goals, leading his team to the 2018 ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup to qualify for the all-island title.

Jokomba scored a hat-trick in Cornwall's 7-0 win over Irwin High School to increase his tally to eight goals from seven games.

He believes that he should be playing better and getting on the scoresheet more often, however, he is looking to make up for the slow start as CC goes deeper into the competition.

"So far, it has been up and down. I think I could have done better in some of the matches, but I can't really complain because we are winning. I know I'll have to work harder for the second round, that is going to be tougher," said Jokomba.

WINNING TITLES

"Our objective for the team is for us to win the Olivier Shield. However, my personal objective is to score the chances that my teammates create for me, and, hopefully, finish with 20-plus goals, leading my team to win as many titles as possible this season," he added.

"I think we have the team. Our bench is pretty strong in that any player can play at any given time, so we have the team to win the daCosta Cup and go on to the Olivier Shield."

When asked about being mentally prepared to take on the challenge of scoring and taking Cornwall over the line against tougher oppositions later in the competition, Jokomba said he is always prepared.

"Well, to be honest, I give all the same respect, whether you get knocked out in the first round, or you're a better team deeper in the competition. So it's not going to be that hard to prepare mentally because I'm always ready to play any team," said Jokomba.
