Frome confident of advancing to second round

Frome Technical High's Zico Stone (front) tries to get by Green Island's Brandon Newman during their ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup match at the Frome Sports Complex on Thursday October 4.

Coach of Frome Technical High School Aaron 'Wild Boy' Lawrence is confident the team will pick up maximum three points this afternoon to qualify for the second round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup when they visit Green Island High in a rescheduled encounter.

Frome is second in Zone B with 17 points from eight games with Green Island three points adrift in third and with a game in hand to be played against a pointless Merlene Ottey High School on Thursday.

Rusea's, who has already qualified, lead the zone with 25 points from nine games after dropping points last Saturday for the first time this season in a 1-1 draw with Frome.

MORALE BOOST

"I expect the boys to come out firing. The result against Rusea's, when we went down to 10 men from in the first half and to get back in the game, is a morale boost for them. We have to understand that we are dealing with schoolboys and these are the things that will uplift them," he said. "We won't be going there (Green Island) for anything less than the three points. We will come out with the result that we need to move on the knockout phase of the competition."

In another rescheduled match today, Petersfield High School, who are unbeaten so far, will go in search of their second-round qualification as Zone D leaders when they host Knockalva Technical High School.

Petersfield, with two games in hand, lead second-place Little London High School, who have played all their eight games, on goal difference.

Knockalva, on nine points with two games in hand, will be looking for a win to keep their hopes alive and to leapfrog third-place Mannings High School (10 points) who have a game in hand.
