St James High School marched into the second round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup competition following their 3-1 win over Green Pond High School at Jarrett Park on Saturday.

The 2011 champions placed 19th on the seeding chart and will face the winner of Zone O, Paul Bogle High School.

Coach Garfield Anderson is aware that finishing second in the group will see them getting an unfavourable seeding.

He, however, said that they were looking beyond the second round, so he invited any challenge they would be faced with.

"We relish any challenge that comes along the way. This is a competitive daCosta Cup competition. As you can see, we came out of a very competitive group that came down to the last game. Whoever our opponent might be, we will show respect but will show no fear. We will apply ourselves, ensure we play good football, and the results will come," said Anderson.

He said that he was pleased with the effort of his boys in the first round.

"We want to give thanks to the Almighty for progressing beyond the preliminary and into the second round. These guys are just youngsters, so we are not putting too much pressure on them. They have grown tremendously as a group and have improved as we go along the way," said Anderson, who noted that they hadn't lost a game in the return-leg fixtures.

"This shows a level of consistency, as the belief and confidence are there, so anything is possible. We know we are no title contender and are not under any illusion whatsoever, but we are going to put our best foot forward. Wherever it takes us, we will enjoy the journey while it lasts," he added.
