Peart calls for UWI consistency

Andrew Peart, head coach of UWI FC, is urging his team to be a lot more consistent, this after their 1-0 defeat to Tivoli Gardens in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

Colorado Murray netted the all-important goal for Tivoli in the 54th minute.

In fact, UWI were losing for the first time at the UWI Bowl in three seasons to Tivoli Gardens.

Having thrashed Arnett Gardens 3-0 in their previous encounter, UWI arrived full of confidence and determined to continue their positive form. However, they failed to spark against Tivoli with the result condemning them to their second defeat of the season.

Peart told STAR Sports that his players have to be a lot more consistent if they are to make it into the top six of the competition this season.

"Consistency is very important because it will bring about a better mentality in our game and when you lose games, then you have to lift the players mentally," said Peart.

"This is just the second game that we have lost and a top-six spot is what we are targeting," he said. "It is disappointing to lose, but we will bounce back because I know these players, and come the next game, they will be a different team," said Peart.

UWI remain on 10 points from six games, with a record of three wins, one draw, and two defeats.

LUTON SHELTON

Meanwhile, Harbour View will host a fundraiser in aid of former national player Luton Shelton during tonight's RSPL feature match against Mount Pleasant.

Shelton, who is the country's all-time leading goalscorer with 35 goals is battling the degenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and tonight's event is just one of several events planned to aid in his medical expenses.

Tickets to attend the game have been increased to $1,000 from the usual $500.

It will be an extended evening of football as the Harbour View Masters will take on the Violet Kickers Masters, who will feature national senior men's team coach and World Cup veteran Theodore Whitmore. Former FIFA referee Peter Prendergast will be in charge of this contest.
