Not taking anyone lightly – Weatherly

Dr Dean Weatherly, coach of Cornwall College, says despite Glenmuir High School's poor form, they won't be taking them lightly when they go head-to-head in the third and final game of the quarter-final round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup at Jarrett Park today.

Cornwall College lead the group with six points and only need a point to secure a semi-final spot over Charlemont and Garvey Maceo, who are both on three points and will battle at Juici Patties Park at 1 p.m.

"Everyone is a quarter-finalist, and therefore, you can't take any team lightly at all. This is what we have been working for all year to reach the semi-finals first, and then we think about the finals. Right now, our next hurdle is Glenmuir. Although they are at the bottom of the group, we can't take them lightly because to reach this stage of the competition, they must have some quality," said Weatherly.

"It's (playing at home) a plus, we hope to give our fans a very good game and something to cheer about. We are coming with our usual Cornwall College football and hoping we will be successful."

Weatherly is aware that Glenmuir have not won a quarter-final round game since 2012 and has only drawn one of their last 11 games. He says he is expecting them to come out hard to try and break that spell and finish on a high.

"We don't want history to be made on us, we usually create history... Yes, we are cognisant of that fact. I know they probably want to end their season on a positive note. So we are expecting them to come hard at us and we will be giving back just the same," said Weatherly, who said this won't impact the way his boys play today as they are very much focused.

"No, no, there is no complacency there. Based on the training sessions and talks since Saturday that we have been having, it can be seen that they are very serious-minded and focus on the task at hand," he added.

Seven other daCosta Cup games will be in action today.
