Dinthill won't take Champions Cup lightly

Coach of Dinthill Technical High School, Xavier Gilbert, is aware of the dominance of the urban teams in the ISSA Champions Cup, as all four stages have been won by them. However, he says he is confident that his team will put on a good show to get the better of Holy Trinity High School when they go head to head in the competition's first round at the Stadium East field tomorrow at 4 p.m.

"I anticipate a tough game. Holy Trinity has been doing well and particularly in this competition, they have always managed to be among the top four or eight. However, we fancy our chances of getting beyond this round, so we are going to give it our best shot," said Gilbert.

"There is always a good rivalry between the rural and the corporate teams, which stands for very good atmosphere. So far, the urban teams have dominated the competition, but, hopefully, we can break the tie this year," said Gilbert.

STAKE OUR CLAIM

"We know they (urban schools) have dominated schoolboy football on a whole, winning both the Olivier Shield and the (Champions Cup). However, we definitely want to stake our claim and stamp our class in the competition," he added.

"We have some quality and depth, so we are definitely going after it. If we put on a good show, we will do well and it starts with getting beyond this first round on Saturday."

When asked about the level of emphasis they are placing on the Champions Cup, Gilbert told STAR Sports: "Winning is a habit so we are not taking it for granted".

"Yes, sometimes we have to prioritise, but despite the daCosta Cup being our ultimate goal, we have to put ourselves in a position where we can get some form of silverware this season. We are going after all that are available to us this season and this is one of them. We are giving this Champions Cup our best shot," said Gilbert.
