Charlemont High School edged out 2016 champions Lennon High School to a 1-0 win in their semi-final of the ISSA/WATA Ben Francis Knockout Cup at the Juici Patties Park yesterday to book their spot in their first-ever final.

Howard Barker was the goalscorer for Charlemont in the 18th minute.

Kavi Meeks, coach of Charlemont, who admitted they were a bit lucky to survive waves of attack and numerous opportunities that Lennon created after taking an early lead, said despite not having the best performance, they are happy to have a chance of grabbing silverware.

"To be honest, I think we are lucky but it's part of the game of football. I think given the circumstances of the school being in the semi-finals for the first time played on the mind of the players. I think we panicked and didn't manage to execute on the day, which could have cost us, but all in all, a win is a win," said Meeks.

"Definitely, we are looking forward to bringing home our first silverware. It would mean so much to us that words can't explain," he added.
