MBU set for active transfer window

Sandra Christie, operations manager at Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) outfit Montego Bay United (MBU), confirmed that four key players will return to the squad next month. She said that January will also be an active transfer window for the club.

Christie's comments follow those of interim head coach Dillon Thelwell, who said in an interview with Television Jamaica (TVJ) after their 3-0 loss to Harbour View FC on Monday night, that they are looking forward to the return of a few players in coming weeks to strengthen the squad.

"Dino Williams, for example, would complete his post-season recovery. We have Lesly St. Fleur, who should also be coming back from his national stint with The Bahamas. Also, Deshane Beckford, whose loan ends with Harbour View at the end of the month, and Owayne Gordon, from a stint with San Antonio FC (in the United Soccer League (USL), in the USA)," said Christie, who is also looking forward to the return of Johan Weatherly, who was transferred to Harbour View in the summer.

"Johan would be in the transfer window. He has expressed a desire to come to us, and Harbour View has given him the OK," she added.

So as it relates to strengthening and stabilising, that should give us some good footing going into the next year."

Reports suggest that MBU could lose players to rising Western Confederation Super League team Falmouth United, led by Dr Dean Weatherly, who coached MBU to the RSPL title in 2014. However, Christie said that at this time, they are keen on adding to the squad with potential targets already identified, and not to lose.

"Dr. Weatherly has indicated interest in two players, but it's highly unlikely that he will get them," she said." Yes, we have (identified potential transfers). We expect to have our full cohort (of transfer targets) finalised by this Saturday."

Christie, however, admitted that Ghanaian defender, Nicholas Amponsah, who did not feature in Monday night's game will no longer be with the club.

"Amponsah has returned to Ghana," she said. "He has gotten a contract with a club in the US. Tim Hankinson (former MBU coach) has drafted him for the team he is with at the moment, Chattanooga FC in the USL. So he had to go back to start getting his US visa processed in Ghana," she said.
