Western Bureau:

Player-coach at Montego Bay United (MBU), Dwayne Ambusley, is hoping that Sunday's 1-0 victory over Mount Pleasant Football Academy will inspire a turnaround in their relegation battle in the Red Stripe Premier League.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the St James-based club.

Despite the win, MBU remain rooted at the foot of the table on 19 points, the same as 11th-place Dunbeholden and two points below Reno in 10th.

The winning goal was scored by Orlando McBayne who converted a second minute penalty against the St Ann-based Mount Pleasant.

Ambusley believes the hype ahead of the game pushed Montego Bay United into playing their best brand of football this season against Mt Pleasant.

"What we have been asking our team for is that every week we bring a game like this. For some reason we haven't been doing that. However, I hope this is the turning point of something good to come with the rest of the games this season," said Ambusley.

More threats in attack

"Sometimes, when we come out to play, we are just not good enough on the day. But today (Sunday) we minimised the mistakes we had been making at the back against a good Mt Pleasant team that posed more threats in attack than most of the other teams we have played," he added.

Ambusley believes they have to get it right for the fans who never gave up on them. According to the player-coach they are targeting at least 25 points from their remaining 12 games this season.

Ambusley also attributed the victory to the fact that MBU were 'tired of losing'.

"It's frustrating when you walk on the street every day and there is always someone asking 'What is happening to the team'?" said Ambusley.

"The people of Montego Bay have the team at heart and they are feeling it just like us," he added. "We have to try to maximise the remaining points. We have 36 points to play for, we have to get at least a minimum of 25 from it."
