Cavalier looking to lock up play-off spot

Technical director of Cavalier Rudolph Speid said his team is determined to secure all three points against Waterhouse when both teams meet in the Red Stripe Premier League at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday.

Cavalier, who were beaten 1-0 by Portmore United in their last encounter on Sunday, are currently third in the standings on 45 points, three behind Waterhouse. Portmore United lead the standings with 50 points.

The Marcel Gayle-coached Waterhouse have been in fine form recently, which saw the Drewsland-based club winning three out of their last five matches and drawing the other two. However, Cavalier will enter Monday night's contest with a slight edge, having defeated Waterhouse and drawing their second game in their two previous meetings this season.

Speid said this game is a crucial one for his team in their quest to secure the top spot in the league.

"We are still looking to get back to where we were a couple of weeks ago, which is at top of the Premier League, so we are taking this game very seriously," Speid said.

"This is a game that could also decide second and third, so we have to take it very seriously, and we want to make sure that we get all three points."

Speid said the race for places in the top six is getting very close, so a win on Monday would all but cement their spot in the play-offs.

"Our plan is to stay as far away as we can from the team in seventh position because our aim is to finish in the top six and then take it from there. So a positive result is definitely what we will be aiming for on Monday night," Speid said.

"We are kind of still despondent about the loss to Portmore on Sunday, but we just need to be more professional in this game," he said. "They are always a tough team, but we have always done well against them. So I am expecting us to once again do well against them."
