National record holder, Kemoy Campbell is still hopeful that he can return to athletics even though medical officials are yet to determine what caused his heart to stop, while rabbating the 3000m at the Millrose Games in New York earlier this month.

Yesterday, Campbell revealed on Instagram that after several tests, doctors at the New York Presbyterian Columbia Medical Center have so far not been able to determine what caused his heart to stop which led to his collapse in the race.

But he was informed that he could resume training after taking a few months off.

“I was told that I would have to take a few months off and I could start getting back into it slowly with permission from my cardiologist,” Campbell wrote.

But first the former Bellefield High School standout will have to take measures to ensure that a repeat of the ordeal does not occur.

He says an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator will be implanted to shock his heart back into rhythm, in the event of a repeat.

“After multiple vials of blood, ECHOs, EKGs, ultrasounds, MRI, CAT scan, PET scan, and heart biopsy, the weeks of testing resulted in no diagnosis for the cause of my heart stopping,” Campbell advised through social media.

“On Monday, I will be putting in an ICD in my body (left side of my ribs).

This device will shock my back into rhythm if this is to happen again,” Campbell continued.

Campbell represented Jamaica in the 5000m at the 2016 Olympic Games and was a finalist at the 2017 World Championships.
