Dino Williams’ overhead kick helped Montego Bay United (MBU) beat Cavalier 2-1 in the Red Stripe Premier League on Sunday at WesPow Park.

The winning goal came after Williams’ penalty, was saved, but he went airborne to volley home the rebound.

“In the game, even though I missed the penalty I still believed in myself that if I get back another, I’m going to score. Something that a go through mi mind from the week is to score a spectacular goal, so probably that’s why mi never score the penalty,” he said. “Even in the morning before the game, me and one a mi friend Foota talk about it, mi a tell him say me a go score the winning goal and a go wah beauty. God a show mi sign say mi can do it.”

Kaheem Parris gave Cavaliers the lead after just three minutes. However, Nazime Matalie-Grant levelled in first-half stoppage time, slotting home after a clever ‘dummy pass’ from Williams.

Williams’ highlight reel goal in the 72nd minute helped MBU pick up three crucial points.

Williams credited his performance to the hard work being put in since the arrival of coach Luciano Traina Gama.

CONFIDENCE BOOST

He said the win would boost the team’s confidence going into the remaining games.

“I told myself from the Humble Lion game that I need to score eight to nine goals in this round. I have two already, so I know I still have some work to do. If I can get a goal or two a game, my defence line helps me, and we work as a team, I know we can get our way out of the relegation zone. As you can see, three points from Cavalier will give us a lot of confidence going forward,” Williams said.

Gama showered praise on Williams, who he believes can do better with better physical conditioning.

“We know the quality of Dino ... I’m just sorry about him not having the best of physical condition, as he could do more for us. He is a guy that gives 100 per cent on the field. I’m very happy with his performance. It’s not easy when you lose (miss) a penalty kick to come back and score a goal like he did today. It was a big goal,” Gama said.

Despite the win, MBU is still in the relegation zone, in 11th place with 24 points, three behind Harbour View in 10th.
