Petersfield FC and Georges Plain FC are set for a Labour Day special in the final of the Westmoreland Football Association/Dujon’s Construction Major League, after comfortable wins in the double-header semi-finals at the Landilo Complex last Friday.

In the first game, hat-tricks from Brian Williams (5th, 40th and 63rd minutes) and Lando Campbell (64th, 74th and 77th) saw Georges Plain thrash Little London FC 6-0, to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and advance 6-1 on aggregate.

In the second game, Petersfield routed Westmoreland Police 8-0 to advance 14-1 on aggregate.

Romario White (38th, 72nd, 82nd), Clive Silburn (16th, 27th) and Oshane Niel (40th, 60th) got the goals for Petersfield, along with an own goal.

The final is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Landilo Complex.

“The semi-final just showed the level of football we are trying to play and the talent we have. The guys want to play football, and we are just giving them the best opportunity. We just tell them to go out, enjoy themselves and play well,” said Evon Clayton, coach of Petersfield.

“The game between us and Georges Plain, we know we have to go for it because we need it. We are a bit more experienced than them, so we will be going all out to get back to the Super League (parish play-offs),” he added.

Confidence

Despite going up against red- hot favourites Petersfield in the final, captain and goalkeeper of Georges Plain Chad Blair believes the character they showed in the semi-finals will give them the confidence to take the title.

“After we went down 1-0 in the first leg, we sat in a meeting, went back to the drawing board and figured out where we went wrong. We realise we weren’t capitalising on our chances in the first leg. We made the necessary adjustments for the second leg, capitalising in front of goal, and I think that made the difference,” Blair said.

He said the team knew it had to “spot on” in the finals.

“Going into the final, we know our opponent as we played in the group stage where it finished 0-0. We are going back to the drawing board, evaluating our players, as well as evaluating them (Petersfield). We will be coming all out looking for victory in the final,” the custodian added.
