Edwin Allen High School sprinter Tia Clayton has apologised for a video uploaded to social media earlier this week, which sparked suggestions that she was pregnant.

Clayton, 14 years old, was seen in the video being embraced by a young male friend who then rubbed her stomach, leading to comments on the video questioning whether she was with child.

However, in her apology, the Class Three Girls 200m champion at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships (Champs) in March, Clayton said the video was posted as a prank.

"I, Tia Clayton, apologise to my sponsors, school, family and friends for my poor judgement in posting a video on social media, which was a prank with my classmate," she said. "I know now that behaviour is unbecoming of a role model. I understand that many persons are disappointed in my behaviour. I have learnt from my mistake and I am sincerely sorry."

Responses to Clayton's apology video have, however, been mixed as some persons say they accept the apology, while others question its sincerity, as they believe her to be laughing throughout.

Clayton has personal best times of 23.44 seconds, set in the 200m final at Champs, and 11.32 seconds in her preferred distance of 100m, also set in March this year.
