Keep this group of girls together – Plummer

GRENOBLE, France:

Reggae Girlz skipper Konya Plummer is imploring the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) leadership to ensure that the current crop of players are kept together and given every opportunity to grow from their debut FIFA Women's World Cup appearance.

The Girlz have suffered two defeats in as many games at the competition, losing to Brazil last week Sunday by a 3-0 margin and 5-0 to Italy last Friday.

The Jamaicans will close out their Group C assignments against Australia tomorrow in Grenoble at the Stade des Alpes and Plummer shared that the team is in high spirits ahead of the contest, despite their results at the tournament so far.

Necessary support

However, the defender is already looking forward and believes it is imperative that the Reggae Girlz programme be given the necessary support from the country's football hierarchy.

"It's always important to keep these girls together and have camps, you can tell the difference of teams that have camps and those that don't, that sort of preparation and the experience you get from stuff like that can go a long way," said Plummer.

'"Experience can carry you a long way and most of these teams are using experience against us. It doesn't justify the losses, but it has played a part. Camps and getting together as a team and playing practice games is always important. We will want to see a change in that area. We are so young and we have a lot to learn and accomplish together," Plummer added.

She noted that the Jamaicans are excited to get back on the field and push for a positive result against Australia, who have so far lost 2-1 to the Italians and beaten Brazil 3-2 in their games to date.

"We look forward to every game we play, it could be our last game and so we are all looking forward to representing Jamaica as best as we can," said Plummer. "Everyone is on the same page, everyone feels the same way, so it's much easier when everyone wants the same thing. Of course we did not come here to lose, it has happened but what we do with these lessons is the most important thing going forward."
