Chace The Great’s own race to lose

CHACE THE GREAT, one of the most consistent grade-one horses in training, November's Caribbean Sprint winner, who finished ahead of WILL IN CHARGE and SHE'S A MANEATER, when beaten by ANOTHER BULLET in April's Lady Geeta Trophy, is down in class among open allowance runners on Saturday, facing six rivals, a half of whom have never won at the level.

Running on an already anaemic programme, 75 horses on a nine-race card, CHACE THE GREAT shares topweight with distance runner, SUPERLUMINAL, but will carry 121lb at five furlongs straight due to leading rider Christopher Mamdeen's apprentice claim.

Rubbing salt into a gaping wound in class difference, CHACE THE GREAT gets a plumb draw, post-position four, which keeps ANOTHER VIGOROUS, at stall two, to his inside and PATRIARCH, the other speedster in the event, within catching distance, drawn beside him at stall five.

Looking at the handicaps, CHACE THE GREAT will have to run his worst race in many moons to be defeated by either ANOTHER VIGOROUS or PATRIARCH, who are sitting too close in the weights to a grade-one horse, 117 and 116lb, respectively.

The last time CHACE THE GREAT raced at five furlongs straight was in January, carrying 126lb, caught at the wire by fellow grade-one campaigner, MONEY MAGNET, who won in 58.1.

ANOTHER VIGOROUS ought to be the exacta horse but the track bias against horses on the inside could make it go PATRIARCH's way.
