Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) president Wayne Shaw is making an urgent appeal to some clubs within his confederation to step up and take the development of youth football more seriously.

Shaw told STAR Sports that while some of the clubs within KSAFA have been making steady progress in their development of youth football, there are still others that are lagging.

"Some of them need to do more," he said. "But as you know, running football is very expensive and to take care of five teams throughout the year is kind of taxing on some of them.

"Most of the clubs are getting their own sponsorship, but some of them are just sitting and waiting for things to happen. This is not going to work if we are serious about of the development of football.

"What is going to happen now is that these people who don't take it seriously are going to be left by the wayside and after a while, their players are going to gravitate to the more organised clubs who are serious about the development of football."

The veteran administrator underlines that any club does not participate in their age-group competitions would not be allowed to compete in KSAFA's senior tournaments.

"We have noticed that quite a few clubs are going overseas and playing in youth competitions, which is good for our football because a lot of these players are being exposed to various style of play on the international circuit," Shaw said.
