We want the title! - Simms sets target as Molynes win four straight

Forget just staying in the league, Molynes United is aiming for the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) title in their first season in the nation's top-flight.

Head coach Lijyasu Simms has set the target for his side after they recorded their fourth straight win of the season defeating Arnett Gardens 2-1 at Drewsland yesterday.

Simms is confident that with the start that they have made so far, the team can challenge for the championship.

"I wasn't thinking about staying up. I was thinking about winning the league," said Simms after the game. "Once you go for winning the league you must stay up. That's our plan, to win the league. Once we do that, staying up is a must."

10 men

For the second time in three weeks, Molynes were forced to play with 10 men after Nicholas Nelson who gave the home side the lead in the 18th minute, was sent off two minutes later after the referee judged that he maliciously threw an elbow in the face of Arnett Gardens' Shamar Price.

Simms said that he did not see the incident that lead to the sending off but lamented the fact that he will be without one of their key players for next week's trip to Dunbeholden.

"It's sad that we lost a quality player like Nelson [to the red card]. We just have to get [Nelson's] head and get him level headed again and get him ready for whenever he plays," he said.

Despite the man disadvantage, Molynes had ample opportunities to score and even when Vishinul Harris got the equaliser for Arnett two minutes into the second half. Simms was confident in his team's ability to find the score and praised the effort of Tyrique Wilson who got the match winner.

"Tyrique Wilson came up big. It's not a surprise. We know what he has and we know what he can do," he said.

"The type of football that Molynes United playing right now, we are going to create a lot of chances. It's just how well we finish the chances that we create. With ten men down we still created a lot of chances and we managed to take two today and win the game 2-1."

The win propels Molynes United to the top of the RSPL table with 12 points, two points ahead of Waterhouse who drew with Humble Lion yesterday.
