Jamaica Scorpions captain Rovman Powell hit one of the fastest centuries in the Super 50 Cup, however, his third list A hundred was not enough as the Scorpions went down by 13 runs to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in their crucial Group 'A' clash at Conaree in St Kitts.

Powell's whirlwind innings of 106 came off just 40 balls with 13 fours and seven sixes as the Scorpions, chasing 256 for victory, folded for 242 in 28.3 overs.

Powell came to the crease with the Scorpions in trouble at 67 for four in the eighth over, and the skipper knew that if the Scorpions were to make it to the semi-finals, they would have to get the runs inside 31 overs to overhaul their opponents net run rate.

Last laugh

The right-hander was particularly savage on seamer Quinton Boatswain, however, the later would have the last laugh as he had Powell caught behind with the score 162 for six.

Jamie Merchant with 30 and Derval Green 22 tried to keep the Scorpions in the contest, however, the task proved too much as Boatswain finished with four for 85, while there were two wickets each for Sheeno Berridge and Jason Campbell.

Earlier, Kieron Powell anchored the Hurricanes innings, scoring his second century of the tournament. His 105, which included 13 fours, was the catalyst for the Hurricanes 255 for eight in their 50 overs.

Powell and Amir Jangoo shared in a 154-run second-wicket stand with Jangoo going on to score 69.

Pacer Oshane Thomas was the pick of the bowlers with three for 59, while Derval Green bagged two for 52 and Dennis Bulli two for 48.

The win for the Hurricanes allowed them to seal the second position in the group and into the semi-finals where they will face host Trinidad and Tobago.
