Five star showing by Nelson

November 28, 2019

TOONA CILIATA joined stablemate HOUDINI'S MAGIC down the backstretch and kept going further away with Dane Nelson, sealing a five-timer for the Canada-based rider on yesterday's 11-race card.

A prohibitive favourite after finishing third behind SHE'S A MANEATER and STRANGER DANGER in the Diamond Mile, the country's richest grade-one race, TOONA CILIATA reported a class lower and made hacks of the opposition, winning the nine-furlong and 25 yard race by five and three quarter lengths.

The battle for the minor placings among the top barns was far more interesting with Wayne DaCosta's pair, SUMMER SUN and HOVER CRAFT, storming home for second and third, respectively, thwarting leading trainer Anthony Nunes' bid to sweep the top four spots after swarming the eight-horse field with four runners.

However, Nunes had the upper hand on the day, combining with Nelson to land the sixth race with ROHAN KABIR, completing a three-timer with SIR FREDRICK in the 11th, earning $1.4m in stakes, extending his lead to $5.7m ahead of reigning champion DaCosta.

Nelson won four consecutive races, the fourth to seventh, aboard A SEH SOUP, ROYAL VIBES, ROHAN KABIR and OKAHUMPA, respectively, before partnering TOONA CILUATA in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial, named in honour of Nunes' father.

Racing continues at Caymamas Park on Saturday.
