Arnett Gardens

It was a tense battle for second place in the standings at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex between Arnett Gardens and Mount Pleasant last Monday. It seemed that the visitors had done enough to grab a point despite playing with 10 men from the 60th minute onwards after Liston James was sent off. But Kemal Malcolm found the winner in stoppage time to gain all three points and register back -to-back wins for the second time this year. The win takes the "Junglists" to 25 points, tied with the St Ann-based club, only missing out on second place in the table outright due to having an inferior goal difference.

Dunbeholden

Dunbeholden are slowly entering the conversation of being playoff contenders. They defeated their St Catherine neighbours Portmore United 2-1 last Sunday to record their second straight win of the season over the defending champions. Striker Dean Andre Thomas has already equalled his goal scoring tally from last season with eight goals and he is getting support from other players as well. They have accumulated 10 points away from home, fourth best in the league and have entered the top six for the first time this year on 21 points. Consistency will be the key to maintain their latest spell of good form. Dunbeholden's place among the top six in the league may be impossible to ignore if they keep getting results. They host relegation threatened Tivoli Gardens on Sunday.

Ronaldo Webster

The young Cavalier defender scored his first goal of the season in his team's 2-1 win over Harbour View at Compound, the team's second win at the venue in three attempts this calendar year. With his schoolboy season completed with Wolmers Boys School, Technical Director Rudolph Speid hopes that he will be a key contributor to their march up the table. Kingston College's Dwayne Atkinson is also among the young players itching to make an impact on the table as well as Jamaica College's Nickashe Murray. Speid will have to wait a little longer for Murray to join the team as plays the final game of the schoolboy season in tomorrow's Olivier Shield Final. Cavalier will host Humble Lion in the Monday night game at Stadium East.

Humble Lions

Humble Lions had a profitable few days as they got four points from their previous two games thanks to their midweek draw with Dunbeholden and their 1-0 win over Molynes United last Sunday. They have moved to fourth in the table with 22 points and it's pretty clear that the Andrew Price coached team will be in playoff hunt this season. They are now only three points off from the top two positions and can contend for the other automatic semi-final place in the playoffs. They travel to Stadium East to play Cavalier SC on Monday night a team they have not lost to this calendar year.

Worst

Referees

A total of 10 referees scheduled for matches last Sunday were absent admit reports that they were still owed fees from last season. Replacement referee's were dispatched to cover the shortfall, but it affected the feature game between Tivoli Gardens and Waterhouse which was postponed due to only two officials showing up for duty with the replacements referees failing to arrive by the 3:20 p.m. deadline. There was confirmation that the outstanding fees were paid albeit late but there have been no reports of any ultimatum given to the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) before the action was taken.

Portmore United

The defending champions are not doing themselves any favours. Back to back wins have now turned into back to back defeats thanks to their 2-1 humbling against Dunbeholden. Portmore have had the historic edge of their St Catherine rivals but now they have suffered their second consecutive lost to Dunbeholden this year. Coupled with their midweek defeat to leaders Waterhouse, the Ricardo Gardner coached side remain in ninth place with 18 points. Their next fixture sees them travel to Molynes United, a team in free-fall but will be motivated to win back their fans and impress their new coach.

Molynes United

Calvert Fitzgerland has some work to do to restore confidence and belief in his team. Immediate results couldn't be expected with Fitzgerald only being appointed a couple of days before their 1-0 lost at Humble Lion on Sunday but with a full week to work with the team, he needs to make a good impression to show he is the man to turn around their season. His familiarity with the club having coached previously will give the fans some optimism but that will not last long if the poor form continues. They host defending champions Portmore United on Sunday at the Constant Spring Sports Complex.

Harbour View

Harbour View have slumped to eight place thanks to their 2-1 defeat at home to Cavalier SC, their second defeat in three meetings this calendar year against the Rudolph Speid coached team. They have only won once in their previous six games and have now lost back to back games at home. Despite this they are three points from rejoining the top six but they need improvement. They face UWI FC at the UWI Mona Bowl on Sunday hoping not to slide any further down the table.
