Mount Pleasant head coach Paul Davis praised his defenders after his side's 2-0 win over Tivoli Gardens in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex yesterday.

Cardell Benbow and Ronaldo Rodney both scored for the visiting Mount Pleasant team who solidified second place in the table with 44 points. Davis said that he was pleased with the way his back line held firm after conceding late against Humble Lion on Monday night.

"I think we went back a little too much but we put [up] the resistance and got the three points," Davis told STAR Sports after the game.

Despite having the better of play in the second half, Tivoli Gardens head coach Phillip Williams was disappointed that his side could not make use of the momentum that they had.

very dominant today

"Not many things went wrong with us today. I think the first goal was a mistake by the goalkeeper if you ask me. The second one I wouldn't blame him too much because we were pressing for the equaliser. We were very dominant today as you can see. It's just unfortunate we did not convert our dominance into a goal," he said.

Mount Pleasant made their early spell of play count in the 34th minute when Tivoli goalkeeper Davian Watkins and a defender could not clear a long ball into the box and Benbow arrived to pounce from close range.

Towards the end of the game Mount Pleasant withstood a late barrage of chances that Tivoli created and secured the points with the last kick of the game when Rodney raced past the onrushing Watkins to seal Mount Pleasant's sixth away win of the season.
