Like a plethora of professional athletes across the globe, Portmore United striker Rondee Smith is working magic to maintain his fitness, as the outbreak of the coronavirus has stopped outdoor play.

Smith, who has netted five times this season for the defending champions of the Red Stripe Premier League, told STAR Sports that he has been doing push-ups, sit-ups and short sprinting to maintain his fitness to be able to finish the 2020 campaign if the virus is brought under control.

"It is difficult to keep fit because I am confined to a small space, as they are saying that we should practise social distancing," Smith said. "But I am doing some push-ups, sit-ups and some short sprinting, and also some ball work because I want to be ready if I am called upon."

Portmore are currently sitting in third position in the league with 46 points.

According to Smith, he is eager for the season to restart as he believes that even though his team's performances have been fluctuating, they were rounding into form at the right time, a situation the former Happy Grove player believes has made the rest of the league nervous.

"I think everyone knows that if Portmore is on form around play-offs time, then it will be dangerous because we have the experience of going there and winning," Smith said.

Portmore won their sixth Premier League title last year when they beat Waterhouse 1-0 at the National Stadium.
