World championship discus silver medallist Fedrick Dacres doesn't want to coach after retiring, but is more interested in administration.

The national record holder was speaking to THE STAR on Instagram live recently on issues regarding the return of track and field after COVID-19 and Jamaica's current pool of throwers.

Dacres said that his talents are more suited to advocacy than coaching, specifically in various sporting councils to give a voice to other throwers.

"I'm not really patient," he said. "So in terms of coaching, I would probably be an adviser to the coach. I don't mind doing that. But I would want to give back to the discipline by being a part of the councils.

"So it's more like a step up where I can be a part of the administration to actually help athletes that are not really heard."

He says that his motivation is to become a member of the International Olympic Council (IOC) Athletes Commission as he feels that he can contribute to the further development of his sport.

"That is one of the many reasons why I am pushing forward to be a part of the IOC council so I can give a voice to the throwers," he said.

He was nominated last December and is contending for one of the four available places in the 23-member commission. The IOC confirmed on May 14 that the elections have been postponed until next year, coinciding with the Tokyo Olympics, which was pushed back to July 2021 because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

While his campaigning plans have been currently put on hold, Dacres says that he hopes to continue his bid when society returns to normal.
