Trainer not deterred by losing streak

Despite failing to win a race at Caymanas Park this year, trainer Phillip Lee says he remains committed to his craft and has no plans of giving up on his passion of becoming a top-10 trainer.

Lee, who won eight races last year, has been having a difficult time this year, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the lockdown of racing for four months.

"It has been a tough year because of COVID-19, and so that was a setback for me, but I just keep working hard and stay focused," said Lee.

"The target is that I am determined and I am a hundred per cent confident that I am going to win races this year," he said.

"Not winning any races so far has not stopped me from working hard because I have been in this thing from 1975 and so I know how to take losing and know how to win," Lee said.

Very hopeful

The soft-spoken Lee, who has been a trainer since 2012, currently has 10 horses in his barn. Chief among them are HAIL MARY, MISS FJC, HE'S THE REAL LINK and JON MARSHALL, who finished fourth last Saturday.

Lee noted that everyone in his camp is very hopeful and confident that the winners will arrive pretty soon. He also stated that the key to success in racing is to have good owners and to ensure that your horses are properly fed.

"I am hoping to win at least 10 races, and that is fair enough because I have the horses to do it and right now, I have 10 horses in the barn," he said.

"The main thing is, horse racing needs nutrition because you have to have the horses under good nutrition and make sure that they have been fed properly. Fitness is also the key, and I have been working really hard to ensure that my horses achieved these things," he said.

"It is not that bad, but what you need is good owners because the owners are the bone, and if you have good horses, then you won't have a problem winning races."
