Former national midfielder Rodolph Austin has signed a one-year contract extension with Esbjerg fB.

Austin, 35 years old, has been viewed by the Danish club as an integral part of its aim for promotion to the Danish Superliga after they were demoted this season.

The tough-tackling midfielder, who is a former Portmore United player, has been at Esbjerg since 2017.

Austin scored one goal in 19 appearances this season as the club finished at the bottom of the table with 22 points from 32 games.

"Austin has, for several seasons, proved to be an incredibly important player for us through, first and foremost, his professional attitude and approach to both training and fighting," Jacobsen said in a media release.

"Therefore, it has been a high priority to make a new agreement with 'Rudy', as he has been assigned a key role for us in the NordicBet League."

The club has released eight players since relegation.

Austin, who last represented Jamaica in 2016, has netted seven goals for the Reggae Boyz in 84 appearances since making his debut in 2005.

He scored a famous freekick for the Reggae Boyz on September 7, 2012, to help earn Jamaica a historic 2-1 victory to beat the United States for the first time in 19 attempts.
