We did not stick to our plans – Powell
The Jamaica Tallawahs captain Rovman Powell says the team's lack of practice and training time has been costing them dearly, following another underwhelming batting display which saw them lose by 36 runs to the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League.
The Tallawahs, who played their second game in as many days, have now lost three of their five encounters, and now lie second from bottom in the standings on four points.
After limping to victory against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Tuesday, much was expected of the Tallawahs when they faced the Barbados Tridents on Wednesday, however, the batting woes continued for the Jamaican franchise who could only get to 112 for nine, chasing 148 for seven posted by the Tridents.
Inspirational all-rounder
The Tallawahs had to do without inspirational all-rounder Andre Russell who had to pull out of the encounter due to a sore knee.
The Tallawahs spinners, led by Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Sandeep Lamichhane, once again did their bit with the ball to restrict the Tridents to under 150 with Mujeeb bagging three for 14 and Lamichhane two for 16.
Man of the Match Kyle Mayers starred with the bat for the Tridents, hitting a top score of 85 off 59 balls including a 29-run over off Carlos Brathwaite.
The latest result was surely disappointing for Powell and the Tallawahs but the first-year captain says he and his team would continue to dig deep and find the resolve needed to bounce back.
"We have to give credit where credit is due. We didn't stick to our plans. The games are coming so quickly that we didn't have the time to get any practice in, but now we do have a break to put our heads together. Andre Russell will be back for the next game, and he will be very useful in the back end," said Powell.
The Tallawahs will next be in action on Saturday when they face the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
