Despite his huge lead in the run in for this year's champion trainer's competition, Anthony 'Baba' Nunes says there is still a long way to go before the title is decided.

Nunes, who is seeking his second straight trainer's championship, currently holds a 10- million dollar lead over his rival and last year's dethroned champion Wayne daCosta with four months remaining in the season.

Nunes also holds a similar 10- million dollar lead over trainer Gary Subraite, who is third in the standings.

"It is obvious that we are in a good spot, but we still have four months to go and so we are going to keep working hard," said Nunes. "It will be great if (winning) it happened," he said.

"The key thing is to stay healthy and sound, and once the horses stay healthy and sound then we will be all right," Nunes said.

The veteran trainer, who has saddled over 1000 winners at Caymanas Park, underlined that he has a very committed staff working at his stable and they are all dedicated to ensuring that another title is achieved this year.

"I haven't changed my outlook on the trainer's championships because I try to win it every year, and I said last year, when I was going for my first, that we just try and put out winners; and if that is good enough at the end of the year, then we will be chilled to win the championships," said Nunes.

"My job is to keep my owners happy, and you do that by winning races," he said.

Nunes enjoyed an excellent showing at the track last Saturday as he scored with a three-timer, including with the feature race, the Jamaica Oaks, with his three-year-old filly ABOVE AND BEYOND. Nunes' other winners on the day were TOONA CILIATA in the Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy race and BIG BANG.

"We have been in good form for the last three or four years and my clients are superb, because I can't say enough about them; and my staff is the best on the island right now because we really work as a team, and it is a total team effort," Nunes said.
