Solaun optimistic about Cyprus move

In light of her previous club move not materialising as she had hoped, Reggae Girl Havana Solaun says that she is where she was meant to be after joining Apollon Ladies FC in Cyprus.

This is Solaun's second move for the calendar year. She had originally signed for Paris FC in January until the end of the season, but was unable to make any appearances for the team before the novel coronavirus pandemic ended the 2019/20 French campaign.

She says that there is no extra motivation for her to do well because of her previous move not working out and believes that she has landed at the right situation to continue her career.

"There is no chip on my shoulder," Solaun told STAR Sports. "I believe that everything happens for a reason and I am exactly where I am supposed to be. Of course, I would have loved to go play in Paris and even though it didn't work out, I know it was for the best."

In what has been a forced off-season for Solaun because of the virus, she said that she has trained alone, similar to what she has done in the past, working on her strength and conditioning in preparation for her next club destination. Her move to Cyprus, she said, was influenced by the low number of positive cases and the opportunity to play in the UEFA Women's Champions League campaign this season.

"In the global pandemic, finding a country and a team that are still able to play is difficult," she said. "Cyprus is a country with very low cases and playing in the Champions League so it was a great opportunity to get some games in."

Apollon are entering the final stretch of their pre-season preparations before their season opener against Ermis Apollon on Sunday. As Solaun prepares to play for the first time in months, she says that she is looking forward to the prospect of setting new goals this campaign and is relishing the opportunity to perform in women's football elite club competition.
