Invited team Tower Hill Strikers were the toast of the 'Memorial Cup' Six-A-Side competition, in Cockburn Pen, St Andrew, as they emerged 3-0 winners over home side West Germany at the Hagley Park Seventh-day Adventist Church playing field on Sunday.

Devontay Ricketts, Latrae Harris, and Ricardo Spence scored the goals for Tower Hill Strikers.

The winners were presented with their trophy, medals, and cash prize after the final by the organisers.

Sixteen teams started the competition from various areas within the community, and invited teams came from Tower Hill and Bull Bay.

The Memorial Cup is the brainchild of dancehall artist Rohan Reid aka Young Wild Apache in memory of the people who have lost their lives due to violence in the community of Cockburn Pen, near the Three Miles area.

Young Wild Apache is currently promoting his new EP, Right Now (Don with the Plan), produced by Yard Hype Entertainment and Hell Block thugs.

"The competition achieved its goals of bringing communities together in peace and harmony," he said. "We will stick with the 16-team format next year, however, each team will be getting a set of gear, and we will seek sponsorship from businesses within the area."

The artist is also building awareness and raising funds to help families in need in the communities affected by violence.

Pastor Omar Oliphant, senior pastor Hagley Park District of Seventh-day Adventist Churches, said that he welcomes this competition and any initiatives that will bring people together in a positive light. He said that next year's competition would be bigger and better.
