Dunbeholden have sent a strong message to their rivals in this year's Red Stripe Premier League competition that they will be a force to be reckoned with after their acquisition of former league's Most Valuable Player Tramaine Stewart from Waterhouse.

The acquisition of Stewart, who plays attacking midfield, is the second player from Waterhouse who has joined Dunbeholden in recent days, after midfielder Keithy Simpson also joined the St Catherine-based club.

Paul Christie, manager of Dunbeholden, said they are very delighted with the acquisition of Stewart because he is one of the top midfielders in the country.

"Everybody knows that he is a former MVP of the league and we know his skill set and what he will bring to the team," said Christie.

Offensive dimension

"We have a different offensive dimension in Stewart. He is from the St Catherine community and he has always been closely tied with Dunbeholden," he said.

Christie added that Stewart has always been a friend of the club and, therefore, acquiring his signature was a no-brainer for the club.

"He has indicated from over a year now that he wanted to join us, and he should have joined us in January of this year, but there was some mix-up in the date as to when his contract was going to expire," Christie said.

The 32-year-old Stewart, who has 12 caps for the national senior team, was member of the Waterhouse team which was beaten 1-0 by Portmore United in the final Red Stripe Premier League competition in 2018-2019.

The former Eltham High School Manning Cup standout has also scored two goals for the national team.

Meanwhile, the National Premier League competition is scheduled to kick off on November 14.
