Following his impressive performance in Bayer Leverkusen's 6-2 win over Nice in the Europa League last Thursday, national midfielder Leon Bailey recorded another assist in his third consecutive league to help Leverkusen defeat Augsburg 3-1 in yesterday's Bundesliga fixture at the Bayer Arena.

With his side already leading 2-1 in the closing stages, Augsburg's final attempt to equalise from a corner kick in the dying seconds of the game led to a counter-attack led by Bailey who almost managed to score into an empty net. With the ball tricking in the penalty area, Moussa Diaby managed to latch on and finished from close range to secure all three points and to move Peter Bosz's team to fourth place in the league with nine points.

Leverkusen took the lead in the 16th minute through Lucas Alario from the penalty spot before Augsburg restored parity in the 51st minute through Daniel Caligiuri. Alario gave Leverkusen the lead for the second time in the 74th minute courtesy of a well-timed header from a free kick.

Although Bailey has not yet scored this season, he has recorded three assists so far in the young campaign including two in that Europa League game against Nice.

Leverkusen's next game will be against Slavia Praha in the Europa League on Thursday.
