With the Regional Super50 cricket competition tentatively scheduled to start in February of next year, O'Neil Cruikshank, cricket operations and development manager at the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), said all systems are in place for the Scorpions to make a successful return to regional action.

The Regional Super50 tournament was originally scheduled for October of this year, however, it was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cruikshank told STAR Sports that the Scorpion players have been training intensely in small groups and therefore they would be ready whenever the tournament begins.

"We have heard word that there is the likelihood that the Regional Super50, which is usually played between October and November, will be played in February of next year," said Cruikshank.

First regional tournament

"We are looking at that as the first regional tournament that is likely to be on us and our programmes are geared towards that reality," he said.

"The players have been training in small groups and I know that they have been doing a lot of fitness virtually which have been set out by the coach," Cruikshank said.

He underscored that the players and management staff have been following Covid-19 protocols and guidelines that have been set out by the Government during their training sessions.

"We had a situation where a player tested positive and as result of that two other players lost opportunities of earning. We don't want to put our players through that medical situation and we don't want as a result of it, we have players losing out financially," Cruikshank said.

"We have learnt our lessons and we are doing the best that we can. Of course we have appreciated that we are not in a bubble and so these players have to go back home and so at this point we are not able to do the seven day testing as other professional sports have been able to do," he said.

"But with the extent within the limitations of the resources that we have, we are doing the best that we can and right now and the best that we can is prevention for all," Cruikshank said.
