After four years with United Soccer League (USL) championship club Louisville City SC, national midfielder Devon Williams will be looking for a new challenge.

The 28-year-old Williams announced on Tuesday that he won't return to the club for a fifth season. His contract had expired with the club at the end of November. He took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the time that he spent with the team. "Four seasons of memories, friendships, growth and trophies.

"Thank you @loucityfc," he said. The club confirmed his departure sometime later tweeting "What a run we had. Thank you @Speedy_ccc80 ( William's Instagram handle)."

Despite the impact that the coronavirus had on the 2020 season, Williams made 19 appearances which included a play-off run to the Eastern Conference finals, where they were beaten 2-1 by the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Having moved to the club in 2017 from New York Red Bulls II in January 2017, he has made a total of 111 appearances, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists. Additionally, he has helped Louisville City secure back-to-back titles in his first two seasons (2017 and 2018). In total, he has won the league title three times in his career including his 2016 triumph with New York Red Bulls II.

In an interview with the Louisville Courier-Journal on Wednesday, head coach and sporting director John Hackworth wished him well and said that he will have a special place in the history of the club. "We will miss Speedy dearly but hope that his time representing LouCity will serve him well as he pursues his future goals," Hackworth said.

Williams last played for the Reggae Boyz on October 13 scoring his first international goal in their 2-0 win over Aruba in the Concacaf Nations League. He has made 12 appearances for the senior team.
