JFF set to appoint youth women’s coach
Dalton Wint, general secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), said his organisation is now in the process of appointing a head coach of the national Under-17 women's team.
The post of Under-17 women's team became vacant last month after Hubert Busby Jr's contract was not renewed.
Busby, who is the head of the national senior women's team, was preparing the Under-17 girls for the Concacaf FIFA World Cup qualifiers before it was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wint said that the JFF is now actively looking at their options and the appointment of a head coach for the junior Reggae Girlz will be done in short order.
"We are looking to appoint a coach of the Under-17 women's team early next year and, as a matter of fact, the process has already started to secure the services of this coach," said Wint.
"We will be targeting a local coach for this team because we know that there are a lot of qualified and experienced coaches here from which we can appoint somebody," he added.
Prior to his departure from his role as head of the Under-17 team, Busby told STAR Sports in an interview that there is an urgent need for better infrastructure development in order to improve the growth of the sport locally.
Wint said that there are now plans by the JFF to address these issues on all fronts.
"There is a strategic plan that we have for the development of our young ladies and so we will be working to ensure that we achieve this plan going forward," said Wint.
"We do have a lot of young players here because Konya Plummer, Jody Brown and Deneisha Blackwood are all home grown players, and so we do have a lot of talent here and so it is just to nature these talents and we are going to be doing that," he stated.
