National striker Romario Williams's first goal for his Egyptian club Al Ittihad proved to be the difference as they came from behind to defeat Tala'ea El Gaish 2-1 win in their Egyptian Premier League game on Saturday at Gaish Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

The 27-year-old Williams, who was making his third appearance for the club, came on as a second-half substitute and scored the winner on the stroke of full time as Al Ittihad bounced back from their 4-0 defeat by defending champions Al Alhy on December 28.

El Gaish took the lead in the 30th minute, thanks to Ahmed Samir, who converted from the spot after the referee awarded a penalty. However, Al Ittihad found the equaliser four minutes from half-time when Razak Cisse found the net for his second goal of the season. The two teams seemed to be set to split the points, but substitute Abdel Samia Ibrahim's pass found Williams, who rounded El Gaish goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam and placed the ball into the net to steal all three points for the away team.

Williams expressed his delight on Instagram on Saturday on scoring his first league goal since signing for the club in December, and starting the new year off with a win. "Great start to the new year picking up three important points away from home and bagging my first goal of the season. Hopefully the first of many," he said.

The win takes Al Ittihad to eighth place in the standings, with seven points from four games played, four points away from current leaders El Gouna. National teammate Damion Lowe, who also signed for Al Ittihad, did not feature in the game as he is reportedly dealing with an injury. The team's next fixture will be a home game against fourth-place Al Masry.
