National midfielder Daniel Johnson has secured his future with English Championship club Preston North End for the foreseeable future.

The 28-year-old Johnson signed a contract extension on Friday that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2023. He has currently made 250 appearances for the club since joining in 2015 and says that he is happy that the matter has been resolved so that the focus can be shifted towards helping the team for the remainder of the campaign.

"I am relieved, but I am very happy that it is done," Johnson told the club website. "It is put to bed now, and for quite a while, it has been what I have focused on so I can get tunnel vision and focus on my football. I have been here quite a while, and I am happy to still be here. The goal now is to kick on and start producing what I know I can produce and keep helping the team."

Johnson has scored five goals so far in 23 appearances this season as Preston currently is in 11th place in the Championship with 36 points, six points away from the Championship playoff positions. He made his Reggae Boyz debut last November during the two-game series against Saudi Arabia and scored his first goal in their 2-1 win in the second game on November 17.

Preston head coach Alex Neil says that Johnson is highly valued at the club and is pleased that he has made the commitment to the team long term.

"When he has been available, he has been a regular in the team for that time and has shown everyone what he brings to the squad, and I am delighted that he has shown the commitment to the club, and I look forward to continuing to work with him," Neil told PNEFC.com

Preston will look to return to winning ways on Saturday when they 22nd place club Rotterdam.
