As speculations continue as to the club future of national striker Khadija Shaw, senior women's head coach Hubert Busby Jr has insisted that whatever happens he wants the former St Jago High School standout to be guaranteed to play big minutes to continue her development.

Shaw is in the middle of an amazing second season with French club Bordeaux having scored 17 league goals this campaign, surpassing her debut season total of 10 goals. In the midst of helping her team towards a potential Champions League qualification for next season, she is also targeting domestic cup silverware. Bordeaux defeated Le Harve 5-0 in their round-of-16 match on Saturday to book a spot in the quarter-finals for the second straight season.

With her contract expiring this summer and teams inquiring about her availability, Busby says that for Shaw's long-term development, she needs to be in an environment that she can frequently play with the best in the world.

Focal point

"Whatever decision is made it's done with the idea that she continues to get minutes and she continues to be the focal point of whatever team she's in and that's the most important thing for me.," Busby told STAR Sports.

Shaw signed for Bordeaux in June 2019 ahead of the Women's World Cup and since then she scored at least 10 in back-to-back seasons in the French Division One Feminine.

As her performances continue to gain the interest of the top clubs in the world, Busby says that he is pleased with her attitude and how she has not allowed herself to get distracted in spite of the increased interest.

"She's done a really good job of just focusing on being better each and every week and because of that you can see the results," Busby said.

Bordeaux are currently in third place in the league with 26 points and will return to league play on Saturday when they travel to Dijon on February 6.
