Reggae Girl Khadija Shaw's stunning second season with her French club Bordeaux has not gone unnoticed as she was yesterday named in ESPN FC's list of 'The 50 Best Women's Players in the Game Right Now'.

The list was compiled by women's football experts both within and outside of ESPN to highlight a group of the best players currently active within their respective teams and leagues. The 24-year-old Shaw was placed number 31 on the list, ranking higher than Brazil's Marta (ranked 35), the United States' Alex Morgan (ranked 38) and Megan Rapinoe (ranked 40).

Currently in the final year of her two-season deal with the club, Shaw has already surpassed her debut season goal total of 10 last year to become the current leader in the golden boot race with 19 to go with seven assists this year. Marie Antoinette Katoto of league-leading Paris Saint Germain is second with 17 goals. The 22-year-old French forward was ranked 19 on the list.

In her assessment of Shaw's season, Australian journalist Lindsay du Plessis credited her current numbers as well as her overall rise to the top of the professional ranks despite experiencing personal tragedy while attending the University of Tennessee.

EXCEPTIONAL BALL COVERAGE

"Losing four brothers and two nephews while in college tested her resolve to stay in the US, or even continue with football; the sport gave her focus and provided a refuge," Du Plessis said. Former France defender Aline Riera said of Shaw last December: 'She has a rare profile ... athletic and very powerful, with exceptional ball coverage. But also capable of incredible things with her feet because she has a very good technique and goes fast'."

Shaw's latest assist came in Bordeaux's 3-2 lost to Paris FC on March 12, where she found her teammate Katja Snoeijs for the opening goal. Bordeaux are still in third place with 32 points and currently hold on to the final Women's Champions League qualifying spot. They hope to return to winning ways this weekend when they travel to Fleury 91 this Saturday.
