National senior women's head coach Hubert Busby says that the omission of national striker Khadija Shaw from the French Division One Feminine team of the season is a shock considering her performances in her second season in the league.

The end of season awards were announced last weekend with Shaw, who plays for Bordeaux, a notable absentee from the team of the season which comprised players from Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and defending champions Lyon. This is despite Shaw being the current joint top goalscorer with 21 goals this year with a game left to play.

PSG's Marie Antoinette Katoto, who is also tied with Shaw, made the team of the season as well as Young Player of the Year winner, Sandy Baltimore, and Lyon forward Delphine Cascarino. In addition, PSG's Kadidiatou Diani, who was also named into the team, was awarded Player of the Year, a category that Shaw was nominated in along with Katoto and Cascarino.

Busby says that considering her body of work this year, it is hard to make a case as to why she was not included in the team of the season.

"You respect their decision but I think anyone who's watched that league, anyone who has followed it, you can't tell me that Bunny Shaw wasn't one of the top 11 players there this season. And that's saying that without being biased," Busby told STAR Sports.

While they were not in contention for the title, Shaw played a major role in Bordeaux securing third place this season and Champions League qualification for next year. Shaw is responsible for 44 per cent of the total goals that Bordeaux has scored so far this year (48). The second highest goalscorer this season for team is Katja Snoeijs with nine goals in 20 league appearances. Shaw is currently also tied for sixth in assists this year.

Busby says that her vital contributions to Bordeaux's season should have given her a nod into the team.

10 goals during her 2019/20 debut

"I don't know what else you would need to do to get into that squad because it is about the quality of the player, what she brought and what her goals meant for Bordeaux to get into the Champions League," Busby said.

Shaw scored 10 goals during her 2019/20 debut season which ended abruptly due to COVID-19. Busby says that he has been impressed at not only how quickly she had adapted to the league but also how much she has evolved during her two years at the club.

"The biggest part is really her growth as a person, as a woman. She's a proper pro. She should be very proud of what she's been able to accomplish because it's not easy. To do that and not only adapt on and off the field but to do that and thrive, it's something that I don't think a lot of people can really appreciate," Busby said.

Shaw's time in France could be at an end as Manchester City are reportedly in the running to sign the Jamaican star when her two-year deal expires at the close of the 2021 season.
